WebMD Reader 2014
PROJECT: During my UXDI Immersive class in General Assembly, one of our team projects was to create a companion app to go along with a commonly used existing one. My team was lucky enough to be assigned to WebMD.
RESEARCH: We started off with some basic questions and ideas on how we could make the best companion app that people would want to use. We headed out to the street to do some basic user research learning what people used WebMD for and what they think would be an improvement or bonus.
Majority of the people we asked didn’t even know there was content on WebMD. So, it definitely wasn’t hard coming up with a companion app. There are a lot of useful articles available to everyone, people weren’t aware they exist.
PROCESS: We focused on three major sections of what our app would be most important which was creating an account, articles and videos, sharing abilities and profile settings. We created a site map and gradually built out the design using illustrator for wireframes, then high fidelity mockups on photoshop and piecing together the final product on InVision to create a working prototype.
RESULTS: Our companion app was designed so that once a user creates a login they have the option to add topics and interest to better curate the content that is being delivered to them. We also included an option for people to bookmark and share videos and articles.
As I am writing this now, I think it would be highly useful during the Covid-19 pandemic during Shelter in Place in California.
